Grid Connection Process
- The grid connection process varies by state and by electricity distributor.
- The following section outlines the grid connection process for each state and Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP), as based upon documents on DNSP's and the CEC websites.
- As requirements change from time to time, it's best to check with your local distributor.
- Note that customer's tariffs can change when they install a PV system.
- Some states or distributors have special requirements, some of which are listed below. These can increase the cost of installation, requiring extra time, materials, or service charges.
- ACT: local distributors require installation of a rooftop DC isolator. A meeting on site with ActewAGL subsequent to installation needs to be taken into account.
- NSW: distributors provide meters for free but require that that a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider perform meter installation.
- Victoria: distributors require installation of a rooftop DC isolator. Some distributors (e.g. CitiPower and PowerCor) will remove off-peak hot water service from being a controlled load, notionally because retailers time-of-use pricing varies. To continue receiving hot water at off-peak rates, installers should connect the hot water service to a timer relay in the meterboard.
- Electricity retailers in Victoria and NSW are not obliged to pay-out accounts that are in credit, and credits may expire after one year. Some retailers offer pay-out on accounts with credit balances; customers may need to change retailers.
By purchasing through Future Sustainability we will do all the grid connection work for you. The process is simple: Once we recieve your deposit we contact Energex to let them know you intend to get solar power connected to the grid. Energex write you the customer a letter confirming your system with some general information on your new smart meter which they will install after grid connection. Energex require you to fill in a form and send it back to them at this point. Once we have installed your system we contact Energex again and let them know that your system is installed. It will take Energex generally 2 - 4 weeks to install you with a smart (digital) meter, or configure your already installed meter.
