Changes to Solar Feed in Tariff

Archived News, Posted on 11 May 2011

The Queensland Government has announced changes to the Solar Bonus Scheme, which is the payment that owners of solar power systems recieve when they export electricity to the grid.

A payment of 44 cents per kW sent back to the grid will remain in place, but the size of systems eligible will reduce from 10kW per phase to 5kW per residence. The changes will take effect on the 7 June 2011.  Queenslanders wanting to secure systems larger than 5 kW's have until this date to get their grid application forms into Energex to be elligible for the premium feed in tariff.  Future Sustainability will do this for you. We at Future Sustainability believe this is a positive step the Queensland Government has taken, providing security to existing owners of solar power systems and new or prospective owners of solar power systems.  The announcement has again coinfirmed that the scheme will remain in place until 2028, another 17 years.

As of March 2011 there has been 149kW installed, with the Government noting in the release that they are working to double this within the next 5 years.

It is still good news for homeowners, who have again been ensured that they will recieve bonus credit when feeding electricity back to the grid.
