Always Purchase with a Trusted Company, with a Trusted Brand Name

A Courier-Mail investigation has obtained evidence showing that since late last year at least 150 families have paid $900 each to a business called Solar Powered Products.

Customers were cold-called and later visited by a man calling himself Steve Williams. They signed contracts to host advertising for the company in exchange for a "free" solar power installation. The $900 was said to be a refundable "advertising fee".

But dozens of customers complain they have never received anything - not even the expected advertising hoardings.

They receive weekly text messages from Mr Williams' phone postponing installation and saying there is "no need to reply".

The Courier-Mail has established that the company shares a Robina post office box and a founding director with a Christian ministry called Australia's Revival, which occupies a large unit on an industrial estate at Carrara.

Company documents show SPP is owned by Julie Anne Jones - founder of Australia's Revival - and directed by her and Robert Brown.

Police confirmed complaints had been received about a company selling solar products door-to-door for which deposits are paid but no products delivered.

They urged affected members of the public to lodge a complaint with police.
